New Chepe Express

The Chepe Express is the new luxury train of the passenger railway route that currently runs through the Sierra Tarahumara of Mexico, passing and making stops for different destinations from the Mochis (Sinaloa) to Chihuahua (Chihuahua).

The Chepe Express comes to complement the offer of tourist train service that exists on the Chepe route. For now, only the Chepe Regional tourist class train is available; The Chepe Express, which will be inaugurated on May 17, 2018, offers visitors the possibility of living an experience aboard a luxury train that has executive class and the highest standards of quality and service.

It is one of the trains that have tourist routes in Mexico.

The new luxury train of Chepe has 6 passenger cars divided into two classes: economy class and business class, the first has capacity for 60 people who can enjoy their trip comfortably sitting on reclining seats and admire the landscapes through the panoramic windows, in addition the area has 4 HD screens, professional audio system and 2 luxury bathrooms.

On the other hand, the executive class has 48 ergonomic reclining seats with a central table, also to observe the landscapes they have panoramic windows, in addition to 4 HD screens, professional audio system and 2 luxury bathrooms; highlights in this type of wagons that there is personal service on board and snacks and drinks service.

Unlike Chepe Regional, which only offers coffee service, the new Chepe Express will have Wi-Fi, bar service with capacity for 40 people, terrace with lounge area and a restaurant with two levels and capacity for up to 24 people each.

Chepe train

The train known as ChePe train (formed of words Chihuahua and Pacifico) opened in 1961. It’s the only passenger train in Mexico and the ground connection between the cities of Chihuahua and Los Mochis Sinaloa.

Recognized as a masterpiece of Mexican engineering, it crosses 37 bridges, 86 tunnels, and a distance of 673 km (408 miles).

Every day there is a train circulating, from Chihuahua to Los Mochis and another circulating from Los Mochis to Chihuahua. Both trains have first class and economy class.

The train includes a dining car, bar car and several passenger cars.

Passengers cars have space for 68 passengers, reclining seats, air conditioning, heating, food and beverage service, and porter service during the journey to provide care to passengers.

In 1988 the company renovated the fleet of cars making the passenger trains more modern and comfortable throughout Mexico, as a result, travelling in these trains received recognition as one of the ten most spectacular train journeys in the world.

Stations along the route are as follows:

Los Mochis, El Fuerte, Témoris, Bahuichivo, Posada Barrancas Divisadero, Creel, San Juanito and Cuauhtemoc Chihuahua.

Other amenities are available for caravan/RVs. For those who want to make this unforgettable trip there is also the trailer platforms called “piggyback”.

Bird watchers can enjoy seeing between 200-300 species of birds. There are two distinct biomes home to a variey of birdlife. Soldier Mccaws are a cool find, along with so many varieties of Hummingbirds. In this YouTube video, you will see the Rio Fuerte and some of the bird life there.

Train enthusiasts will be amazed at the extensive construction as it passes through 87 tunnels and 39 bridges. The first class train offers a dining car, and sometimes a bar car.

Copper Canyon Railway, Mexico

The Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacifico (Copper Canyon Railway) features 36 bridges and 87 tunnels along its 655 km length.
